Domaine Georges Brunet and Domaine Nicolas Brunet

The Brunet family has been producing wine in the village of Vouvray for eight generations. They work 14 hectares of vineyard on clay, limestone and flinty soils atop 9 meters of limestone mixed with flint. The wine is vinified and aged in three cellars cut into the limestone hillsides. The vines are all harvested by hand and are never chaptalized. All elevage is done in stainless steel to preserve the freshness of the fruit.

The primary focus of the estate is on sparkling wines of which they produce 80,000 bottles per year. Fermented in the bottle and made from the Chenin Blanc grape, they combine green apple fruit with fine bubbles and a dry, rich, yeasty, toasty finish.

Another 20,000 bottles of still wines are produced which range in style from the very crisp, dry Sec to the very sweet, age worthy Moelleux. The still wines have the classic style of Chenin Blanc from the village of Vouvray. They are bursting with tart, green apple fruit and given complexity by the goutte de terroir of limestone, flint and minerals. Although there is the full range of wine from dry to very sweet, all the wines are balanced by a lively, bright, fresh acidity. These wines take age exceedingly well and develop nuance and complexity with time in bottle. Because of their intensity and crispness, they are wonderful food wines. We are able to stock wines from older vintages.

2008 Georges Brunet, Vouvray Sec
Brunet Vouvray Sec displays a concentrated sense of terroir combining layers of limestone and flint minerality. The green apple and lemon fruit of the Chenin Blanc are backed by tremendous acidity.
Only 4g per liter residual sugar, 5.4g per liter acidity, and 13.5% alcohol. This is a big, intense wine with a dynamic, bright finish to match up with food.
