Domaine Feuillat-Juillot – Montagny
Francoise Juillot grew up in the vines at her father’s property in Mercurey. She began working at the estate in Montagny in 1989, and in 2004, after studying oenology at the University of Dijon, she bought the 14 hectares (2 h Village and 12h 1er cru, only 1/2h in Pinot Noir) made up of 13 parcels of vineyard and created Domaine Feuillat-Juillot. She brings a fascinating mix of science and feminine sensibility to the crafting of wines of complexity and finesse.
The beatific village of Montagny is a southern extension of the geology and soil types from the Cote de Nuits and Cotes de Beaune: Jurassic rocks and fossils with a base of clay/limestone soils perfectly suited to Chardonnay. Agriculture is as organic as possible (lutte raisonnee) and the grapes are hand harvested. Every effort is made to allow the true expression of the terroir to show through.
A range of white wines are made, some aged in stainless steel to preserve brightness, freshness and minerality, and some in barrels to add richness and texture to the 1er cru. A little bit of Bourgogne Pinot Noir is also produced.
