| Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur |
| Producer Domaine Trapet Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Pinot Noir Elevage 30% whole cluster fermentation, 70% destemmed. 70% new barrels. No fining or filtering. One racking before bottling. Description The 2000 vintage of Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur is truly lush, openly expressive and available for early enjoyment. It has a lovely perfume of black fruits, chocolate and vanilla toast and layers of ripe, black cherry and cassis fruit on the palate. The texture is soft and silky and the finish long and sweet. This is a great example of the forward character of the 2000 vintage in general and demonstrates the direction of the winemaking at the estate. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 86. Medium red. Roasted red berries and autumnal hints on the nose; seems a bit less deep and pure than the Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea. Sweet and rather suave in the mouth, but not yet revealing itself. Seems more tannic today than the Ostrea, without that wine's lift." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2004): "Points: 89. Good bright, deep red. Rather wild aromas of red fruits, leather, game and coffee. Ripe, fat and minerally; the flavors are less obviously sweet than those of the Petite Chapelle but this has more intensity and energy in the middle palate. Finishes with sweet, fine tannins and very good length. This has turned out very well." © International Wine Cellar From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 87-89. Good bright dark red-ruby. Ripe, aromatic nose combines redcurrant, mocha and menthol. Juicy and tightly wound, with brooding black cherry and mint flavors sweetened by some smoky oak. A rather severe style of Gevrey, but also hardened today by the gas." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2005): "Points: 89. Medium red. Wild, expressive aromas of black cherry, violet, licorice, meat and earth; very Gevrey. Dense and fat, with surprisingly cool, fresh flavors of dark berries, flowers and menthol. Finishes a tad dry, with very good but not outstanding length." © International Wine Cellar From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 90. Red cherries and roses can be discerned in the pretty aromatics of the 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur. Its plush, satiny-textured personality delivers terrific mouth-feel and seductive waves of creamy cherries as well as raspberries. This medium-bodied wine is sexy, supple, and long. Drink it over the next 5-6 years." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2005 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, #170 (April 2007): “Points 89 The {2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur} leads with scents of ripe blackberry and black cherry, offers a fascinating counterpoint of plush texture and black fruit and bitter chocolate low-tones on the one hand and a bright, juicy berry preservation and invigorating salinity on the other. These virtues override the slightly rustic tannins and gross manifestations of barrel that also emerge in the finish. From old vines in Corbeaux and Cherbaudes (both adjoining Mazis) and young vines in Combottes.” © The Wine Advocate |
