| Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle |
| Producer Domaine Trapet Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Pinot Noir Elevage 30% whole cluster fermentation, 70% destemmed. 70% new barrels. No fining or filtering. One racking before bottling. Description The Petite Chapelle vineyard is just under Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru. It tends to be a bit denser and more concentrated than the other Gevrey Chambertins of this estate, but the 2000 vintage is forward and full of ripe black fruits and layers of toasty oak. It has a fine perfume and rich texture and will benefit from a few years of bottle age. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 88. Moderately saturated medium red. Wilder aromas of plum, smoke and gibier, plus a hint of animal fur. Sweet but firm on entry, then nicely intense and delineated in the middle palate; less evolved than the Clos Prieur and better balanced for development in bottle. Finishes with firm, suave tannins and very good length." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2004): "Points: 88. Good deep red, with ruby tinges. High-toned, expressive aromas of plum, licorice, smoked meat and mint. Juicy, firm, even austere, with bright, lively flavors of black cherry and licorice. In the distinctly firm style of the vintage. This will need at least a few years of bottle aging." © International Wine Cellar From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 87-90. Good deep red, with ruby tinges. High-toned, expressive aromas of plum, licorice, smoked meat and mint. Juicy, firm, even austere, with bright, lively flavors of black cherry and licorice. In the distinctly firm style of the vintage. This will need at least a few years of bottle aging." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2005): "Points: 86. Medium red. Somewhat evolved aromas of redcurrant, leather and earth. Tangy and peppery but on the lean side. The slightly dry, dusty tannins give the finish an autumnal quality, but the wine shows decent length." © International Wine Cellar From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 90. The medium to dark ruby-colored 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle bursts with cherry and violet aromas. Mouth-coating, sensual, and soft, it delivers oodles of black cherry paste, vanilla, and raspberries in its fruit forward, medium-bodied character. It should be drunk over the next 6-7 years." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2005 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, #170 (April 2007): “Points 89+ The {2005 Gevrey-Chambertin La Petite Chapelle} offers ripe black cherry with a pleasantly bitter note of cherry pit and hints of lily in the nose; a deep, clean, meaty richness on the palate, with a plush texture; and macaroon and vanilla suggestions from the toasting of its 50% new barrels seeming to slightly dominate the finish, which may however be suffering from the wine’s having just been bottled.” © The Wine Advocate |
