| Producer Domaine Trapet Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Pinot Noir Elevage 30% whole cluster fermentation, 70% destemmed. 70% new barrels. No fining or filtering. One racking before bottling. Description Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru, like many of the top vineyard sites, has a warm micro-climate which ripens earlier and can be harvested at full maturity and ripeness earlier than other vineyards. It tends to be the softest and most elegant of the Grand Cru at this domaine. The 2000 vintage has a rich, sweet perfume of black and red fruits and toast. On the palate its lush, dense fruit flavors are wrapped in layers of smooth, round, silky tannins and sweet oak. The finish is long and sweet, and this Grand Cru will be ready to enjoy before the others. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 91. Good deep red. Complex aromas of raspberry, currant, game, smoke and underbrush. Rich, supple and packed with supersweet, slightly roasted red fruit and smoked meat flavors. Very long and sweet on the back, but with lovely grip. The wine's fine tannins reach the molars." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2004): "Points: 90+. Good medium-deep red. High-toned aromas of candied red cherry, flowers and resiny oak. Rich but dry and tightly wound today, with a strong edge of acidity. The raspberry fruit is nicely lifted by a floral perfume. This has more dimension than the Clos Prieur but is very unevolved today, showing a firm structure typical of the vintage. I’d wait five or six years on this." © International Wine Cellar From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 90-93. Dark red. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, menthol, smoked meat and mocha. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, with lovely sweetness and intriguing suggestions of black licorice and iron. Has the energy and verve of the better examples from this vintage. Intensely flavored and quite firm, with the tannins nicely buffered by the wine’s material." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2005): "Points: 91. Good deep red. Captivating, soil-inflected aromas of redcurrant, cherry, chocolate, mocha, underbrush, menthol and spices. Suave and velvety, with a restrained sweetness and subtle notes of flowers and spices. Very laid-back but structured wine finishing with suave tannins and strong soil tones. Clearly the best of this set of samples." © International Wine Cellar From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 91. Roasted black fruits and espresso beans are found in the nose of the 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals outstanding depth of fruit, yet lacks the power and concentration of the vintage’s best grand crus. This wine’s sensual waves of bacon-laced black cherries and blackberries softly caress the taster’s palate. It is seamless, extremely soft, and generous. Drink it over the next 7 years." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2005 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, #170 (April 2007): “Points 92 The {2005 Chapelle-Chambertin} from what the Trapet family, but others too, refer to as the warmest, sweetest spot on these rocks – exudes black sherry, licorice, lily flower, and mocha. Rich, creamy, and soft on the palate (particularly for a 2005) but without being overly fat, and with a lightly-cooked aspect to its black fruits yet preserving an infectious juiciness, this offers a veritable welcome mat of a finish. While it will doubtless age positively for a decade or more, it should drink well much sooner.” © The Wine Advocate |
