Les Hauts du Tertre is the second wine of the fifth growth of Ch. du Tertre
in the commune of Margaux. It is made from grapes from the young vines of
the
estate which are less than 20 years old. The estate has 50 hectares of perfectly
drained gravelly soils. The blend is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and
25% Cabernet Franc.
Fermentation takes place in traditional wooden vats and the temperatures
are regulated by heat exchangers. The wines are aged in barrel for 12 months
with racking every three months. Fining is done with egg whites.
Like most second wines of the great estates of the Medoc, Les Hauts du Tertre
is lush, ripe, soft and fruity and ready to enjoy in its youth.
