| Domaine de la Crillone, Côtes de Ventoux |
| Producer Ch. de Saint Cosme Region Southern Rhône, France Encepagement 100% Grenache Elevage Matured in one- and two-year-old barrels. Description The vineyard is situated on a limestone slope at the altitude of 350 meters. The vines are 60 years old and produce only 15-20 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes are picked when optimally ripe in small lots and completely destemmed. The wine is more delicate than Châteauneuf du Pape or Gigondas, but is finely balanced with lovely fruit and a complex, mineral character. Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 91. A new entry in the St.-Cosme lineup is the outstanding 2003 Cote du Ventoux Domaine de la Crillone. Barruol found this 7.5-acre estate, planted on pure fractured limestone soils, and decided he had to have the grapes. Aged in old barrels, the 2003 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with a sweet nose of kirsch liqueur, licorice, spice box, and earth. Expansive and savory, its sweet fruit, high glycerin, and low acidity will provide a corpulent mouthful of delectable southern French wine over the next 2-3 years. " © The Wine Advocate |
