| Producer Ch. de Saint Cosme Region Northern Rhône, France Encepagement 100% Viognier Elevage Matured for 8 months. 50% in new barrels, 25% in one year barrels, 25% in vat. Description Condrieu was the most successful appellation in the Rhone in 2002 with little botrytis and lots of mineral character. Louis' vineyard in the village of Malleval at the bottom of the valley has to be picked late, and he tries to harvest almost overripe grapes to produce textures as smooth and soft as possible with aromas of mint, liquorice and violets. Yields are as low as 15 hectoliters per hectare. Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 91. Another honeyed, high alcohol, heady effort best drunk during its first 12-24 months of life is the 2003 Condrieu." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2004 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Jan/Feb 2006): "Points: 90. Bright straw. Precise, mineral-driven aromas of white peach, apricot pit and quince. Firm and juicy on the palate, with energetic orchard fruit and violet flavors lifted by a tangy note of white pepper. “I don’t want a huge wine with too much alcohol,” says Barruol." © International Wine Cellar |
