This family-owned, picturesque estate in the Loire appellation of Chinon works 50 hectares of vines with clay/sand and clay/limestone soils. Three quarters of the vineyards are on the slopes and hilltops and one quarter in the flat lands of the valley with vines up to 80 years old.
They follow the philosophy of lutte raisonnee which means that they generally practice organic agriculture, but if faced with the loss of their crop will use a minimal amount of chemicals if necessary. The many small parcels are all vinified separately so they can produce a range of styles from the different vineyard sites. Natural winemaking with low levels of sulphur produces wines with great purity of fruit and lovely aromatics. Elevage is done in stainless steel or foudres of varying size and age. Some of the wines are extremely forward and lush with bright fruit and soft grape tannins. Others are dense and rich with layers of complex, ripe fruit and mouth-coating tannins that improve dramatically with bottle age.
