| Hermitage Cuvée l'Essentiel |
| Producer Domaine Remizières Region Northern Rhône, France Encepagement 100% Syrah Elevage 100% new barrels. Not fined or filtered. Sixty-plus-year-old vines, granitic soil. A selection of the finest barrels from Cuvée Emilie. Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 96-98+. The 2003 Hermitage Cuvee l'Essential tips the scales at 15.6% alcohol. Again, it is a freakishly concentrated, dense effort with an inky/blue/black color. Aged in 100% new oak, it possesses an unctuous texture, massive concentration, and a 60-second finish. The brilliant 1999 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie, which has not yet emerged from its infancy, was reminiscent of the 2003 at a similar age, but the latter wine possesses more glycerin, alcohol, concentration, and intensity. It is an amazing effort that should age for 2-3 decades... but who knows for sure?" © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Jan/Feb 2006): "Points: 94. (aged in 100% new barriques): Medium ruby color. Room-filling aromas of dark berries, plum jam, cherry preserves, licorice candy, violet and rose. This one is almost too big for the mouth (the alcohol is 15%), offering incredible density, chewy texture and lush flavors of berry liqueur, chocolate, molasses and gingerbread. The endless finish is supple, velvety and utterly seamless." © International Wine Cellar |
