Region
Northern Rhône, France

Mostly Marsanne with a small quantity of Roussanne

Description
The Hermitage Blanc is bigger than the Crozes Hermitage and has more structure and minerality. It shows aromas of lemon-citrus and toast, with layers of orange peel, lemon and vanilla oak in the mouth. The finish is finely textured and long and the Hermitage Blanc has the potential to age extremely well.

Reviews for 2001 Vintage
From the Wine Advocate, #147 (June 2003): "Points: 89. The 2001 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie displays an evolved light gold color in addition to a rich, textured bouquet of rose petals intermixed with white flowers, citrus oils, and toasty, smoky new oak. More closed as well as tightly-knit, it is less evolved than the 2000 was at a similar age. The 2001 is neither profound, nor as charming as the 2000. It needs 2-3 years to round into shape, and should age nicely for 10-12 years. Philippe Desmeures continues to build on his recent successes (the 1999s remain his finest efforts to date). This is a serious estate given Desmeures's unmanipulative winemaking philosophy that puts as much of the essence of his vineyards into the bottle as anyone. In the more challenging 2000 and 2001 vintages, the red wine cuvees have turned out well, although none are up to the level of the 1999s." © The Wine Advocate

From the International Wine Cellar (Jan/Feb 2003): "Points: 89(+?). Bright lemony color. Musky, vibrant aromas of lemon, lime, white flowers and mint. Sweet and delicate but also quite penetrating, with citrus and spice flavors. Much more structure here than in the Crozes. This saw more new oak (50%, vs. 30% for the Crozes) but comes across as less oaky." © International Wine Cellar

Reviews for 2003 Vintage
From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 91. The medium gold-colored 2003 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie Blanc (an 85% Marsanne/15% Roussanne blend that tips the scales at 16% alcohol) reveals abundant aromas of apricot liqueur, orange marmalade, and honeysuckle as well as a hint of rose petals. Full-bodied, chewy, and nearly too much of a good thing, it is made in a different style than normal, but that’s the vintage character. Consume it during its first 3-5 years of life." © The Wine Advocate
