Producer Patrick Lesec Selections (Southern Rhône) Region Southern Rhône, France Encepagement 75% Grenache, 30 years old 25% Syrah, 25 years old Vineyards from the valley and from the slope. Elevage Two-thirds destemmed. 100% aged in tank. Four week maceration. Description This excellent Côtes du Rhône Villages is fresh and fruity with lovely aromas of black fruit. Floral and mineral tones give complexity to the palate, and the finish is sweet and smooth. Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #145 (Feb 2003): "Points: 88-91. His newest project is the 2001 Vacqueyras. A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, it exhibits a big, peppery, earthy, lavender, dried Provencal herbs, cassis, and kirsch liqueur-scented perfume. Full-bodied, explosively rich, dense, and chewy, it should be superb when released later this year." © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Jan/Feb 2003): "Points: 87-90. (from half-destemmed fruit; done entirely in cuve) Full ruby. A coulis of black fruits on the nose. Very firm but juicy in the mouth, with slightly inky flavors of black fruits, minerals, violet and spices. Finishes quite firm but not hard, with sneaky persistence and subtle sweetness." © International Wine Cellar |
