Vineyards are over 50 years old. Description Covered with layers of small white stones, these lovely hillside vineyards in Gigondas have an ancient history dating back to the Romans. The 2000 vintage is a very pretty wine loaded with black cherry and plum fruit with round, soft tannins and a long, sweet finish. The 2001 is denser, riper and fuller-bodied and will benefit from some bottle age. The 2003 vintage was exceptionally warm, and the wine exhibits incredible, exotic ripeness and slightly higher alcohol. The 2004 has tremendous ripeness and perfect balance. Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 91-93. Even better is the 2003 Gigondas Les Espalines. Aged in small barrels, it boasts the deepest color, greatest concentration of fruit, and the finest precision as well as delineation of these first three Gigondas cuvees. A blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 5% Syrah, it exhibits plenty of blueberry, black currant, cherry, and dusty, powdered mineral notes along with a heady finish. It should drink well for a decade." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2005 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #181 (February 2009) Points 89 “The dark, ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Gigondas Cuvee Romaine les Espalines reveals classic notes of garrigue, licorice, earth and truffles, and red as well as black fruits. It is a medium to full-bodied Gigondas that should drink well for a decade or more.” © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2006 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #181 (February 2009) Points 90 “Equally strong in a more challenging vintage is the 2006 Gigondas Cuvee Romaine Les Espalines. Blue and red fruits intermixed with floral and forest floor notes are present in this medium-bodied wine. With good acidity, ripe tannin and a nicely textured mouthfeel, it can be consumed over the next 8-10 years.” © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2007 Vintage From the Wine Advocate, #181 (February 2009) Points 89-91 “The classic 2007 Gigondas Cuvee Romaine Les Espalines reveals plenty of crushed rock, raspberry, and floral notes along with abundant tannin. It should drink well for a decade.” © The Wine Advocate |
