Description
Gigondas Les Blaches gets its complexity and balance from the blend of terroirs: valley floor, mid-slope and high slope. It combines layers of intense ripe, sweet fruit with elegant, round, fine tannins. The 2001 is more intensely concentrated than the 2000 and will improve with some time in bottle.

Reviews for 2000 Vintage
From the Wine Advocate, #145 (Feb 2003): "Points: 89+. The 2000 Gigondas Les Blaches was kept entirely in tank, with no exposure to either smaller barrels or larger wood foudres. It is pure black cherries, medium-bodied, and more of a near-term Gigondas to drink during its first 8-9 years of life. I liked its purity and sensual qualities, something Gigondas sometimes lacks." © The Wine Advocate

From the International Wine Cellar (Jan/Feb 2003): "Points: 91. Red-ruby. Intensely spicy aromas of blackberry and blueberry, lifted by a note of bay laurel. Very ripe, spicy, dense and pliant; quite primary but already shows an enticing perfumed note of violet pastille. Finishes with big, broad, fine tannins and excellent persistence. A very impressive Gigondas that needs a few years of additional bottle aging." © International Wine Cellar

Reviews for 2001 Vintage
From the Wine Advocate, #145 (Feb 2003): "Points: 87-89. Lesec, never one to make things simple, produces multiple cuvees of Gigondas. The 2001 Gigondas Les Blaches exhibits peppery, mineral, blackberry, and currant aromas as well as flavors offered in a medium-bodied, soft style with sweet tannin, excellent depth, and admirable fruit. It comes close to meriting an outstanding rating. Drink it during its first 10-12 years of life. This is the most fruit-driven of Lesec's Gigondas offerings." © The Wine Advocate

Reviews for 2003 Vintage
From the Wine Advocate, #156 (Dec 2004): "Points: 87-89. The Gigondas Les Blaches is a foudre and tank-aged blend of 90% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre. Soft, seductive, and medium to full-bodied, with loads of fruit, it is a stylish, elegant Gigondas with a character reminiscent of Pinot Noir." © The Wine Advocate
