| Saint Chinian Rouanet Tonneaux |
| Producer Patrick Lesec Selections (Languedoc-Roussillon) Region Languedoc-Roussillon, France Encepagement 65% Syrah 20% Grenache 15% Carignan Vines 25-50 years old. 45 hectoliters per hectare. Elevage Syrah and Grenache are destemmed and go through traditional maceration. Carignan Vinified through carbonic maceration. 80% aged in new barrels, 20% in tank. Not fined or filtered. Description The slate soil of Saint Chinian typically gives the Syrah and Grenache great power and concentration, a supple texture and soft, round tannins. This ancient family estate in the commune of Babeau uses a high percentage of Syrah aged in new oak, but softens the wine by blending in a portion of Carignan which has gone through carbonic maceration and is lush, soft and fruity. The result is a forward wine, round, supple and ready to drink young, which has loads of sweet fruit and the texture and richness of the powerful Syrah aged in new wood. |
