| Chambertin Bonnes Mares Grand Cru |
| Producer Domaine St. Martin Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Pinot Noir Elevage 32-42 year old vines. Aged in 100% new oak barrels. One racking by hand before bottling. Not fined or filtered. Bottled by hand. Description Produced in very small quantities, this Grand Cru is denser and more concentrated than the Chambertin Clos de Bèze, but retains the same kind of complexity, elegance and length. The 2000 vintage is very forward and has lovely aromatics, deep cherry and black fruits on the palate. Round, fine tannins and a pretty, long finish. It can enjoyed young and will also age for 7-10 more years. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 90. Good full red. Very ripe, oaky aromas of brown spices, smoke, mint and earth, with a mellow hint of surmaturite Dense and spicy, with intriguing, soil-inflected notes of raspberry, spices, sassafras, caraway seed and earth. Finishes with good spicy grip and a lightly herbal nuance. Seems riper than the '99 version." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2004): "Points: 92. Bright red. Briary red fruits, menthol, minerals, herbs and pepper, plus a whiff of horseradish; complex and inviting. Highly concentrated and stuffed with minerally flavors. Conveys a saline impression of extract. Firmly built and long." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2005): "Points: 91+?. Good full red. Captivating aromas of crushed black raspberry and blackberry. Then powerfully structured but youthfully unforthcoming in the mouth, with the somewhat reduced crushed fruit character carrying through. Complicating low tones of smoke and earth. Has power and penetration but needs a good six to eight years of patience." © International Wine Cellar |
