| Producer Dominique Laurent Region Burgundy, France Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 92. Impressive saturated red-ruby color. Currant and rose petal aromas hint at a near-porty superripeness. Superconcentrated and dense but sappy, with a velvety old-vines texture and great solidity. Roasted, liqueur-like fruit borders on exotic. A headspinning, powerful Clos de Beze that finishes with suave tannins and rich flavors of cherry, smoke and earth. This reminded me of some Burgundies of the 1950s. If anything, this wine's fruit quality turned fresher with aeration." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 2003): "Points: 92-96. (two barrels produced from 100-year-old vines) Ruby-red. Knockout nose combines crystallized raspberry, game, mocha and gunflint; not overly oaky despite the fact that Laurent used 200% new oak. Creamy and voluptuous, already exuding wonderfully complex inner-mouth perfume. Offers nearly confectionery ripeness and sweetness of fruit. Finishes extremely long, with the tannins buried under fruit. (Laurent also has a small quantity of Bonnes-Mares from the Chambolle side of the appellation but planned to keep this explosively smoky, minerally cuvee for himself.)" © International Wine Cellar |
