| Meursault Perrières 1er Cru |
| Producer Domaine Latour-Giraud Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Chardonnay Elevage Vines are 45 years old. 60-70% new oak. Aged one year in barrel. Racking before bottling. Fined, not filtered. Hand bottled. Description The Perrières 1er cru has a lovely nose of lemon curd, spice and vanilla toast. On the palate it is very concentrated and rich with a distinct mineral character and racy acidity. This is typical of Perrières every year. This is a wine that can be enjoyed young, but will develop more complexity with time in bottle. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 138 (Dec 2001): "Points: 88-90. The 2000 Meursault Perrières exhibits ripe white fruit aromas and an ample, detailed character. While it lacks concentration, it is highly delineated and exhibits an appealingly tangy, citrus-filled finish." © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2002): "Points: 92(+?). Complex, rich aromas of lemon cream, hazelnut, vanilla, nut butter and stone. Large-scaled, fat and rich, with a very rich pastry cream flavor. But firm lemony acidity gives this young wine terrific grip on the back end. Jean-Pierre Latour used almost entirely free-run juice in 2000 and did very little debourbage before moving his wines into barrel for extended aging on their fine lees. The finished wines have wonderful sweetness and creaminess of texture, as well as more definition than they showed from barrel a year ago." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2004): "Points: 91. Pure, aromatic nose combines lemon, minerals, nuts and wet stone. Fat, sweet and rich; a rather fleshy, easygoing style of Perrieres, with notes of lemon cream and grilled nuts. A dense, thick wine of considerable size. Builds nicely on the very smooth finish." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2004): "Points: 91-94. Very pure aromas of lemon, grapefruit, powdered stone and toast. Dense, chewy and sweet, with compelling, perfumed inner-mouth citrus and floral flavors of noteworthy precision. Very juicy and light on its feet. This, too, has very low residual sugar. Finishes minerally, aromatic and serious." © International Wine Cellar From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 91-92. The banana cream pie and anise-scented 2002 Meursault Perrieres is a big, fruity, medium to full-bodied wine with a long, focused, crystalline finish. Pure flavors of stones and spices can be found in its deep character. Drink it between 2005 and 2012." © The Wine Advocate Reviews for 2003 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2005): "Points: 89. Full yellow. Lower-toned aromas of exotic fruits, apricot, nuts and honey. Sweet and fat but less detailed than the Genevrieres; in more of a hot-year style. Round but a bit diffuse; even the Charmes shows a tad more flavor definition. Today I don’t find the minerality that was apparent a year ago in the barrel." © International Wine Cellar |
