| Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru Cuvée des Pierres |
| Producer Domaine Latour-Giraud Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Chardonnay Elevage 100% new oak. Aged one year in barrel. Racking before bottling. Fined, not filtered. Hand bottled. Description The estate owns 2.5 hectares in 3 parcels of Genevrieres, one of which is over 50 years old. The Cuvée des Pierres comes from the best section of the vineyard and is aged 100% in new oak. This very special wine is denser, richer and more intense than the regular cuvée of Genevrières. It is typically more backward and requires several years of bottle age to develop its full range of complexity of aromas and flavors. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 138 (Dec 2001): "Points: 91-93. Latour-Giraud's 2000 Meursault Genevrières Cuvée des Pierre sports a boisterous spice and mineral-laden nose. Medium-bodied and gorgeously expressive, it butters the palate with red/white berries, spices, minerals, and poached pears. Satin-textured, concentrated, and focused, this is an admirably persistent wine. Projected maturity: now-2012." © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2001): "Points: 90-92. (this will be aged in all new barrels until September of 2001, and then racked into year-old oak for the last several months of its elevage Bright aromas of spiced apple, lime and hazelnut. Intensely flavored, juicy and solidly structured, with low-toned flavors of oak and oatmeal to go with the higher-pitched fruit flavors. This offers an excellent combination of sweetness, acidity and volume. Firm and long on the ripe but thoroughly dry finish." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2001 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2004): "Points: 91+?. More oatmeal and nutty oak than primary fruit showing on the nose. Rich, sweet, full and deep, with a rather dominant flavor of roasted nuts and sound supporting acidity. Ultimately fresher in the mouth than on the nose, and best of all on the long, strong finish." © International Wine Cellar Reviews for 2002 Vintage From the International Wine Cellar (Sep/Oct 2004): "Points: 92-95. Perfumed aromas of lemon, vanilla and hazelnut. Impressively dense and pure, with strong, pineappley fruit framed by vibrant acids. Very rich, racy wine with more than enough material to support the new barrel treatment. Finishes very long and thoroughly ripe, with no dryness or hardness from the wood. Latour gets excellent acidity in his Genevrieres cuvees, in contrast to some of his colleagues. One of the strongest barrel samples I’ve tasted to date at this address." © International Wine Cellar From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 151 (Feb 2004): "Points: 93-95. Fashioned from Latour’s finest parcel of Meursault Genevrieres (with vines over 50 years old), the 2002 Cuvee des Pierre was produced entirely in new oak barrels. Spicy oak-laced pears are intermingled with minerals in its boisterous aromatics. A huge, medium to full-bodied wine of breadth, depth, and concentration, it coats the palate with velvety layers of toasty spices and poached pears. It is rich, intensely flavored, and reveals a long, suave finish. Projected maturity: now-2013." © The Wine Advocate |
