This lovely estate on the right bank has 16 hectares total from which 2.5
hectare are reserved for the production of this Cuvee Prestige. The soils
are mixed clay and limestone with southern exposures. Merlot makes up 85%
of the plantation with the final 15% in Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines have
an average age of 25 years and about 1,000 cases a year are produced.
Yields are reduced by green harvesting in August and the grapes are harvested
by machine. Traditional vinification techniques are employed. The wines are
pumped over twice a day during fermentation, temperatures are kept at 30-32C
and the maceration lasts 3 weeks. The wines are aged 12 months in barrels
which are 50% new and 50% one year.
The wine typically has dark red-purple color and an expressive nose of cherries
and toast. In the mouth the bright red fruits are balanced by layers of sweet
vanilla oak and ripe, round tannins. This little "boutique" wine
can arguably rival many a Cru Bourgeois.
