| Meursault La Barre Dessus Clos Marguerite |
| Producer Domaine Caillot Region Burgundy, France Encepagement 100% Chardonnay 30-40 year old vines Vineyard abutts Clos La Barre Organic agriculture Elevage Six-month fermentation with wild yeast. Little to no sulphur. One year in barrel. 1/3 new barrels, 1/3 one-year barrels, 1/3 two-year barrels. Bottled by gravity. Fined, but not filtered. Racked once before bottling. Description This classy village Meursault is ripe and fat with layers of rich texture and complex flavors. While it has less minerality than some Caillot's other Meursaults, it has a wonderful purity of fruit, and the oak is well integrated into the wine. Reviews for 2000 Vintage From the The Wine Advocate, Issue 138 (Dec 2001): "Points: 88-89. The 2000 Meursault La Barre displays ripe pear aromas as well as flavors. Medium-bodied and oily-textured, it is loaded with satiny fruit, reveals excellent concentration, and has a long, supple finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years." © The Wine Advocate From the International Wine Cellar (Sept/Oct 2002): "Points: 89-91. Clean, complex nose melds tangerine, grapefruit, hazelnut, acacia flower and a hint of spicy oak; classic Meursault aromas. Juicy and brisk, with vibrant, sappy white grapefruit and mineral flavors. But nicely rounded by its sucrosity. Firm in the middle but expands nicely on the end. Should make an excellent bottle. " © International Wine Cellar |
